Sherry Loveless
Artist Biography

Sherry Loveless grew up in a family of animal-loving artists, where her passion for animals flour­ished along­side her creative talents. Although intro­duced to art and design by her grand­fa­ther (a commer­cial artist), Sherry’s love for animals led her to pursue a career as a profes­sional horse trainer and to complete grad­u­ate stud­ies in animal behav­ior and welfare.

After respi­ra­tory illness ended her eques­trian career, Sherry shifted her focus to graphic design, edit­ing, and publish­ing, even­tu­ally found­ing Catsworth Publishing Services, LLC. In 2020, she resumed her artis­tic jour­ney through a daily prac­tice of draw­ing animals, which led to her first pet portrait commissions.

Sherry’s rever­ence for life and appre­ci­a­tion for biodi­ver­sity  profoundly influ­ence her artis­tic work, today. Her portraits are char­ac­ter­ized by atten­tion to detail, captur­ing the unique like­ness of each beloved pet in a specific moment in time. These artworks serve as mean­ing­ful trib­utes that cele­brate indi­vid­u­al­ity, honor the deep connec­tions between animals and humans, and memo­ri­al­ize these precious relationships.

Since those early days in her grandfather’s studio, Sherry has contin­ued her art educa­tion. Most recently, her natural history illus­tra­tion stud­ies have expanded to include oil paint­ing at the Stuart Street Atelier. Sherry is a member of the National Oil & Acrylic Painters’ Society.

Sherry’s tech­ni­cal approach is rooted in a clas­si­cal tradi­tion. She begins with a detailed grisaille draw­ing to refine the compo­si­tion and values. This serves as the foun­da­tion for incor­po­rat­ing layers of color until the paint­ing is complete. Through her art, Sherry aims to create a visual narra­tive that not only cele­brates the indi­vid­u­al­ity and beauty of each animal but also inspires a broader sense of compas­sion and stew­ard­ship toward all living beings, elevat­ing both the mind and spirit.
